2016-10-05 (水) 01:00 に Google のイベントが開催されて、Chromecast Ultra が発表された。
Chromecast Ultra はビデオ出力対応 Chromecast のハイエンド・モデル。価格は $69 (9,720 円; 税込) で発売予定は 11 月。
Chromecast Ultra の新機能
Chromecast Ultra は 4K ビデオ出力に対応した。現在、4K 出力が可能なビデオ・ストリーミング・サービスは Netflix くらいしかない。今日、Google は 11 月にも Googlp Play での 4K 動画配信を予定していると発表した。
4K 対応以外の新機能を列挙する:
- 処理速度が Chromecast に比べて 1.8 倍になった
- HDR サポート (動画の HDR?)
- Dolby Vision サポート
- イーサネット端子サポート (電源アダプターにて)
あとがき
Chromecast よりも高い動画視聴体験を提供するガジェットとして作られている。「Ultra」の名を冠するのは伊達じゃない。
4K テレビ/ディスプレイを持たない身としては、処理速度の向上くらいしか目を見張る点がない。ディスプレイに映して Google Play を観たいけれど、Chromecast で十分。そういう意味では、4K 対応機器を持ってるユーザーをターゲットにした良い製品とも言えそう。
